Ocean Legacy opened this facility at Steveston Harbour in July 2021. It is the first ocean plastic reclamation, recycling and processing centre of its kind in Canada, created to recover and reprocess marine debris from shoreline and community beach cleanups.
Here, recovered marine plastic is sorted, washed, shredded and turned into Legacy Plastic™ pellets, which manufacturers use to make durable new products. The facility also acts as a hub that connects recyclers, industry, community groups, governments and researchers.
