The Ucluelet Depot serves the west coast of Vancouver Island from the West Coast Landfill. Members bring in marine debris from beach cleanups and end-of-life gear from the aquaculture, fishing and marine service industries.
Send us a message to ask about membership for individuals, cleanup organizations or industry.
Use the sorting guide to separate rope, netting, foam and hard plastics.
Bring your sorted material to the depot at the West Coast Landfill during member hours.
Full loads go to Ocean Legacy's facility in Richmond to be recycled into Legacy Plastic™.
Depots accept marine plastic such as rope, netting, crab pots, buoys, foam floats, dock foam, clean polystyrene, tires and wetsuits.
Not every material is accepted at every depot. Contact us to confirm before you load up.
The Ucluelet Depot was built in 2020 in partnership with the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District, with funding support from Fisheries and Oceans Canada’s Ghost Gear Fund. It builds on years of work with Surfrider Pacific Rim and local cleanup crews to keep marine debris out of the West Coast Landfill.
The regional district first partnered with Ocean Legacy in 2019 to create end-of-life solutions for local aquaculture equipment. By 2021, that work had already diverted more than 120 tonnes of rope and netting from the landfill.
The Ucluelet Depot is at the West Coast Landfill, 1500 Alaska Pine Road, Ucluelet, BC V0R 3A0.
The Ucluelet Depot is open to members from 10 am to 4 pm, Monday to Saturday.
